Muscles flex under his red roan pelt as Deuce pumps his legs through the tall green grasses. His gaze is set on equines ahead, obviously of his herd. He could tell by their paint coats, which clashed with his roan. As he got closer he could tell who they were. His two leads and Masque. He tossed his broad cranium back, releasing a whinny of greeting to them. Soon he made his way to their side, standing next to Sundown he nodded to them. "Hello. What are you all talking about?" He asked curiously, always interested in the going-ons in his herd.

Greetings, Deuce. We were discussing the fact that the Fire tribe may soon mount an attack on us. Wind might help them, since they believe that we have grown too great in number. Deuce was a good horse, valuable to the herd. Sundown snorted to himself. We cannot hold both of them back at once, but we can try! And try we will, for the sake of our home and our tribe!

Masque lifted her head, feeling heat flush under her cheeks. Even in apologizing, she'd messed up. And now the Lead Mare was babysitting her! Way to make herself look utterly incompetent... And, to top it all off, there was a battle brewing.
Masque sighed, turning away. The masquerade mare's head snapped back up when she caught the thunder of hoofbeats and the scent of a stallion. It was Deuce, a stallion she could handle far less than Sundown, believe it or not. Duece was a just a little too flirty for the traumatized mare. She edged away, managing not to flee, but she still put herself at the outer edge of the gathering.
As talk turned to war, Masque desperately wanted to speak up, to ask if they could not seek out refuge somewhere or perhaps enlist the Earth tribe's negotiative ability. But she was just a silly, flighty mare. Who would listen to her?

Deuce looks at Masque as she strays away from him and he chuckles slightly. Returning to face Sundown he listened to what he had to say. "Perhaps we should team up as well. Enlist the help of the Earth tribe. Together maybe we could defeat them."

Masque heard Deuce chuckle at her and felt even worse. Hanging her head, she plodded off despondently. She didn't even hear his suggestion to the lead.
She had no place in a war council. All her ideas stemmed toward nonviolent conflict resolution and peace talks and negotiation. A better way, she liked to think. Masque really hated battle.
Like anyone would listen, she mumbled to herself.

The Earth tribe... are a complicated group of horses, and I do not know if they would accept our help, but perhaps. He spoke to the stallion, but his eyes followed Masque as she walked off. They are solid in their ways, but I have heard tell of a ranking stallion who seems more... flamboyant. He turned back to Deuce. He would catch up with Masque later. He stepped closer to Rayna, feeling her warmth and taking comfort in it. Maybe when this stupid war is over, we can finally settle down, he thought.

Rayna nods in agreement with Deuce. She looked to Sundown, "But perhaps we could try. What could it hurt to just ask?" Her gaze followed Masque as she left the group. "Maybe they have some ideas that we haven't considered yet."

Nay, 'twould not hurt to ask. Never hurts to ask, but what flows from the asking might. War weighs heavy on all of our minds. Deuce, would you be willing to ask a truce for us, while the rest of us train and perfect our skills? I have great faith in you as a fighter already. He felt bad about volunteering one of his herdmates for a mission that could get him hurt or even killed.

Masque could still hear them. They spoke on of war and training... If horses could cry, really cry, she would be. She didn't want to do this. War was so stupid. It didn't solve anything, just made it worse. If they fought one, others would band together and fight them and then they'd go to another tribe and fight whoever fought them and they'd fight back... It was just a vicious cycle. There was no point to it.
Why didn't anyone see that?

Duece nods, accepting the task given to him. "Alright. I shall go right away then." With that he turns towards the land of the Earth tribe and speeds off in a gallop. Meanwhile thinking of what he was going to say to them.

Sundown snorted, bowing his head. Botched that effort, he thought. Ah, well. These things happen, and there's always a next time. Hopefully Duece would succeed, the Earth tribers would accept and assist them, and they would fare well in battle. If only, if only. He sighed.

Tiny hoof beats could be heard all around underneath the small sound of a young horses laughter. Jet raced as fast as he could toward the other horses that he knew, laughing non-stop. He had always been a very happy young horse. Just as he neared them, he fell right on his face and tumbled a little before landing on his back. Giggling a little at his clumsiness, he got to his little hooves and started running again on long gangly legs.
When he got near the others, he let out a small squee of greeting (You couldn't really call it a whinney yet..) and stopped, smiling his big smile. "Hiya Guys!" He said gleefully, "Whatcha talkin' 'bout?" He obviously still didn't talk properly, not even when he was around the herd leaders..He had no clue how the heirarchy worked and so, didn't think of Rayna or Sundown as any different from the others.
He also wasn't aware that there was a war going on between the herds..He wasn't sure that the other herds weren't a myth, made up to scare him. Pure childish bliss..The other herds were just the monsters under his bed.

Sundown looked around, unsure what to do. He found young colts... odd. When the colt fell, he stepped towards him, but Jet was apparently alright. The big paint Stallion didn't know what to say... Well, we were just discussing... how it would be nice if we could be friends with the other tribe. He smiled, hoping that the little one wouldn't inquire further. So full of energy.

Jet giggled, "Will I get more friends?" He asked. Without waiting for an answer, he started to run around Rayna and laugh. When he stopped he smiled up at Sundown proudly, changing the subject since he had a short attention span, "I'm going to be leader of the herd someday!" He said, again, not knowing a thing about heirarchy.
Of course, he had a childish seriousness about him and started to march around in a circle. He looked back up at Sundown and giggled again. "Play is a natural part of a young horse's development!" He said, "Mama said so!" He looked unphased at the fact that he had just mentioned his dead mother and smiled broadly.

"Yes... it is... so go run along and play now, that's good." He had always been ungainly whilst among foals... and this was no exception. The coming battles wouldn't be good for the foal, that much he knew. He remembered previous clashes with the Fire tribe from when he was younger, and they had hardened him into the stallion he was today.
